@mitu Ah, since @MISTERHOLLYW00D wrote that he knows that kodi or ports could be added to the main carousel, I though @BuZz's answer only pertained to game roms.

@xgamer020 Please open a separate topic and describe your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
If you experience the same symptoms as in the current topic, then I'm afraid that the advice would be similar - backup and re-image.

If the retropiemenu is missing, if it is only the pictures, reinstall it by following Retropie Setup >> Manage packages >> Core Packages >> Retropie-menu >> Install from source.

If the entire menu is missing, if you have a usb keyboard attached press "F4" and type sudo ./RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.shpress "enter" and follow the outlining steps above.

@John_RM_70 Try one command at a time and see which ones locks up the Pi. It's probably tvservice, but it could be because of the previous command, which specifies might specify an invalid mode.
Have you tried tvservice -p (preferred mode) ?

@herb_fargus thanks Herb, i will try that next time i have to use a downloaded package.
I had to do that twice over the years, once with the Initial setup (Retropie 3.3) and this year when stretch was released with 4.4.0.
Usually i just make updates over the retropie setup.

      Thanks and a nice weekend!

@3D-George Looks like you enabled Kiosk/Kid mode and this hides the RetroPie menu. Did you do that ?
Can you add more info about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. How did you install it ?

@markgrindcore in the retropie setup script under configuration/tools I think there's an option to reset the retropie menu. If not it might be under core. Don't have access to my pi right now to check

@inky1003 I think you have the wrong perception about RetroPie. RetroPie is not an OS in itself, it sits on top of a full OS, you can install it on an existing Raspbian, or start with the RetroPie image and add additional software later (quoted from the front page). You can use the full Raspbian (desktop) image and install RetroPie on it, or vice-versa - start with the RetroPie image (recommended) and then add the desktop (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#where-did-the-desktop-go).

If you have installed RetroPie on your existing Raspbian image, you can just start the setup script and do the configurations described in the docs - it's not something included just in the RetroPie image.
Btw, 3.6 is such an old release, no wonder the setup script cannot determine the platform you're running (probably due to the newer kernel included)

      odd.
this time when i removed the controller, and restarted emulation station, it let me configure my keyboard. I plugged in the controller, and yep, both the controller and keyboard work. I went back and checked the config file you posted, and now there are two entries, one for the controller and one for keyboard.

      thanks for the help mogul.
